Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful insight into Finnish Christmas traditions Comment: Part of a series developed by World Book Inc. several decades ago for young people, these books have evolved into a rich storehouse of information for anyone of any age who enjoys learning the Christmas history, music, crafts, and recipes of many nations.
One of the highlights of "Christmas in Finland" is the story of "The Proclamation of Christmas Peace" first proclaimed sometime in the early Middle Ages.
The book is richly illustrated with full-color photos. Two Finnish carols have the original language, English translation, and musical notes -- "Silently, Silently Christmas Bells Are Ringing" and "When Snow Covers the Ground."
Recipes in the book include Salted Salmon, Liver Casserole, Christmas Glogg, Ginger Cookies, and Strawberry Snow. Some of the six recipe cards feature Rutabaga Casserole, Fruit Soup, and Pickled Herring. There is also an Advent calendar included with the book.
Collect the whole series for your home library and re-read them every December.
